While emerging artists seem to fall out of fashion overnight, canonical names tend to have staying power. Over the past 10 years, there have been only a few changes to the list of the 10 most-searched artists in the Artnet Price Database. But those changes are intriguing.
Even as Picasso, Warhol, and Chagall have held strong in the top three slots, Fontana and Dalí have departed the list, making room for David Hockney and Yayoi Kusama. Roy Lichtenstein—the subject of a Whitney Museum retrospective next year—is ascendant, while Gerhard Richter, long a market favorite, has slipped slightly.
